Richmond Hill Avenue Bridge Reconstruction

Loureiro was contracted by the City of Stamford for the complete replacement of the superstructure portion of the bridge. This included demolition of the concrete bridge deck and parapets as well as removal and disposal of the existing steel beams. To maintain the aggressive schedule, the removal of the bridge superstructure was performed at the same time the areas alongside the abutments and pier were excavated and backfilled with riprap. The abutment and shoreline improvements were accomplished utilizing cofferdams constructed within the waterway.

New approach retaining walls and modifications to the wingwalls were performed in order to widen the new roadway. The new bridge structure received galvanized steel girders, new concrete bridge decks, and parapets. New utilities were placed on the bridge structure including 8-in gas main, 12-in water main, new 9 port electric duct bank and new 8 port telecommunications duct bank. The new approach roadway received new drainage structures and was fully reconstructed, which included new concrete sidewalks on each side of the roadway.
