Loureiro was retained by United Technologies Corporation, Pratt & Whitney Division and the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management to design and construct a 4,000 ft long 4 lane multi-use access road. The roadway was constructed for the University of Connecticut football stadium, the planned future industrial/business development of the large parcel of land surrounding Rentschler Field, and the Pratt & Whitney facility. Teamwork and coordination were paramount in the successful completion of the project before the first stadium event.

The integration of the design and construction expertise of Loureiro was critical in meeting the “can not be missed” deadline. The roadway alignment was tailored to blend with existing site conditions while meeting geometric design standards and the complexities associated with abutting a military contractor’s facility. The earthwork cuts and fills were balanced to minimize the cost of importing materials. This project also included an innovative approach to eliminating storm sewers along a portion of the road using overland flow.
