Indian Rock Nature Preserve

Bristol, Connecticut

Services: MEP and Structural Engineering
Clients Served: Education/Healthcare

Loureiro was contracted to create the structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for this new two-story building built to serve the children’s education programs at the Indian Rock Nature Preserve.

The design included HVAC systems that would accommodate flexible classroom sizes through movable partitions. The HVAC design also allowed for energy-efficient simultaneous heat and cooling for varied office and classroom functions, as well as, the various building orientations. Lab-type sinks were provided in many of the classrooms for hands-on experiments by the students. The new electrical power and lighting systems were designed for energy efficiency.

Construction on the project progressed in many phases over several years as donations and funds became available. Loureiro worked with the owners to create what is today a world-class facility for the students attending the Preserve’s programs.
