Web-based Interactive Electrical Safety Training

Various Sites in North America

Services: Electrical Safety/NFPA 70E Training
Clients Served: Ore Mining Company in North America

Loureiro was engaged to conduct electrical safe work practices training for maintenance personnel located at a surface mining company’s locations around the US and Canada. There were often only one or two workers who needed the training at a given location. It was too costly to send a trainer to conduct the class in person, so Loureiro developed a live presentation, conducted over the internet, with PowerPoint slides being shown as the trainer was interacting with the workers via a telephone connection.

The trainer was able to speak intelligently about the conditions that were or might be encountered at the mines, first, as a result of dialogue with the attendees, and later after visiting one of the locations in person. The slides were customized with photographs of actual conditions and equipment from the location visited, so the attendees could better relate to the environment being depicted. This topic is particularly challenging to present, as it is a true culture shift for most workers hearing the required work practices for the first time.

Highlights

  • The classes are repeated annually for over 150 employees in mines throughout North America.
  • This topic is particularly challenging to present, as it is a true culture shift for most workers hearing the required work practices for the first time.
  • According to the client, this web-based training has greatly helped them move toward a much safer and compliant way of working around energized electrical components.
