This project consisted of the structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for installation of two (2) 400 KW natural gas fuel cells.

The site was very constrained and provided challenges to maintaining proper equipment access and service requirements. The fuel cells, which generate electrical power at 460V, were connected to the customer’s main switchgear at 13,800V through the use of an intermediate transformer. Structural design of the equipment pads was provided to support the new equipment.

Both high grade and low grade waste heat was recovered from the fuel cells. This recovered energy is used to preheat boiler makeup water and to maintain temperature in a steam condensate storage tank adding to the overall energy efficiency of the system.
