Leaking Underground Storage Tank Cleanup

Various Sites in Connecticut

Services: Underground Storage Tanks
Clients Served: Government

Loureiro was awarded a contract by the State of Connecticut to assess and remediate releases at facilities identified by DEEP as leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites. The identified facilities included those at which releases were known to exist, but where owner/operators are unknown or unable to pay for cleanup, or where cleanup has not been satisfactorily completed or permanently closed. Funding for the project came in the form of a grant from the federal government ARRA economic stimulus package.

Loureiro completed assessments at over a dozen sites throughout Connecticut. Following the assessments, remedial alternatives were evaluated and presented to the state for final selection. Loureiro oversaw the removal of multiple UST systems at sites located in urban areas. These projects involved directing contractors on removal of remaining liquids, inerting/removing the USTs and ancillary piping, assessing UST graves and piping trenches for excavation or closure requirements, and collection of confirmatory soil samples.

Additional support services included solicitation of bids from subcontractors, preparation of data, preparation of reports and mapping, survey, obtaining necessary permits, oversight of contractors and site safety, and preparation of site health and safety plans. This project relied upon our strong ability to coordinate with DEEP staff, site owners, municipal officials and other community stakeholders.
