Groundwater Hydraulic Control and Groundwater Treatment System

The Facility Services division of Loureiro was contracted by a Connecticut based aircraft engine manufacturer to operate and maintain a groundwater hydraulic control and treatment system to mitigate the migration of groundwater contaminated with hexavalent chromium and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The groundwater is treated with a 100 gpm, skid-mounted shallow tray air stripper for VOC removal.  A second treatment system removes hexavalent chromium through a process of pH adjustment, chemical reduction of hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium and final precipitation of trivalent chromium prior to discharge.  The treatment process consists of a series of tanks with pumps, mixers, pH sensors, meters and controls maintained on a weekly basis.  Permit required sampling is performed on a quarterly basis in accordance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the wastewater discharge.
