City of West Haven Brownfields Inventory

West Haven, Connecticut

Services: Investigation
Client Served: Government

Loureiro was retained by the City to develop a comprehensive inventory of underutilized and abandoned industrial / commercial properties that are likely to have been impacted by releases of petroleum or hazardous substances. Loureiro worked with the City to focus the inventory on industrial and commercial corridors that are priorities for redevelopment. Once the City’s redevelopment priorities were defined, Loureiro researched records of all potential properties to assess potential environmental impacts related to past or current uses as well as pertinent physical information including available utilities and structures that could be incorporated into future development plans, property ownership information, and tax status. The deliverable included a database of over 100 potential properties in 8 redevelopment corridors. The database included geographical coordinates of each parcel for incorporation of the data into the City’s GIS system.

  • Incorporated the City’s specific redevelopment plans into the inventory
  • Identified 109 potentially eligible properties
  • Included initial assessment of specific types of grants that each property could be eligible
  • Included physical site information to assess potential marketability of each property
