Sewage Pump Station Improvements

Kent, Connecticut

Services: Wastewater
Client Served: Government

The Kent Sewer Commission is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town’s Water Pollution Control Facility and the sanitary sewage collection system throughout the town center. One of the sewage pump stations equipped with dry-pit sewage pumps and steel pump chamber was aging and in need of rehabilitation.

Loureiro performed a detailed evaluation of the facility and determined that continued repairs of the existing equipment would not be a cost effective solution. Loureiro worked closely with the Kent Sewer Commission to acquire a funding commitment for full reconstruction of the pump station through a grant and loan program through USDA Rural Development.

Loureiro prepared a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) and an Environmental Report (ER) in support of the funding application. Once approved for funding by the USDA, Loureiro prepared detailed design plans and specifications for the proposed improvements to the existing sewage pump station including the replacement of the facility with two new submersible sewage pumps in a precast concrete wet well, new pump controls and monitoring/alarm system, a new standby emergency generator inside a prefabricated fiberglass enclosure, and other minor modifications to improve the existing sewage pump station’s operational efficiency and to reduce the hazards associated with confined space entry. Loureiro provided contract administration services and inspection services throughout construction.
