Industrial Waste Water Treatment System Design

This manufacturer had a process that involved abrasive tumbling, alkaline cleaning and acid etching of stainless steel parts. Loureiro designed and installed an automated batch treatment system to neutralize the wastewater generated from these processes. After an economic analysis, the decision was made to provide a simple batch system not requiring a full-time operator.

Loureiro prepared the discharge permit application for submittal to the Connecticut DEEP. Collection sumps were designed for each of the wastewater generating locations along with a central collection tank. The treatment sequence was initiated by a level control, which started metering pumps to provide either sodium hydroxide or sulfuric acid to maintain pH.

Loureiro provided the equipment installation and connection to the sanitary sewer and also provided system start-up supervision and operator training. Operating and maintenance manuals were prepared for both the operating personnel and the Connecticut DEEP.
