Loureiro provided turnkey machine guarding solutions and installation services across four buildings at a Connecticut-based manufacturing facility. A total of 28 machines were assessed, and based on inherent risk, employee exposure, and compliance with OSHA Subpart O, ANSI B.11, and NFPA 79 standards, specific machine guarding solutions were implemented. Each solution was designed to reduce risk to an acceptable level while accommodating employees and production processes. Services included machine risk assessments and the installation of various safeguards such as compliant emergency stops with detent and yellow background legend at operator station and interlock with control box, Ferndale Repar shields and interlock guards, tongue-style safety interlock switches, Repar adjustable belt and disc guards, magnetic motor starter assemblies with remote controls, solenoid valves reporting to safety circuits, shade-style lead screw guards, and keyed interlock switches for bandsaw blade access doors. Highlights of the project included integration of machine guarding solutions with existing control systems (hardware and software), upgrades to circuit control reliability, training for operators and maintenance staff, auditing for compliance and conformance validation, and ongoing support for adjustments related to process changes and maintenance needs.
