This fall, Loureiro Engineering Associates proudly celebrated our 50th anniversary at our headquarters in Plainville, CT, bringing together employees, clients, partners, and community leaders to reflect on our journey from Julio Loureiro’s founding vision to today’s 100% employee-owned firm.

This fall, our teams, clients, partners, and community members gathered in Plainville to celebrate Loureiro’s 50th anniversary. The event highlighted our growth from a small engineering practice to a multi-disciplinary, 100 percent employee-owned firm serving clients across the country.

The celebration featured remarks from state and local leaders, reflections from team members, food trucks, raffles, and time spent with the people who continue to shape our success. As we look ahead, this milestone serves as a reminder of the commitment, ingenuity, and teamwork that have carried us through five decades of service.

Building the Next Generation: Inside Our 2025 Summer Intern Cohort

Celebrating a summer of learning, mentorship, and meaningful contributions from our 2025 intern cohort

Loureiro’s 2025 summer internship program brought 14 students from diverse disciplines into our offices and project sites, where they gained hands-on experience, fresh perspectives, and professional mentorship. From fieldwork and compliance inspections to proposal support and final presentations, the interns made meaningful contributions while building skills for their future careers—reflecting the power of growing the next generation from within.

By the time this edition of The Pulse reaches your inbox, our 2025 summer interns will have wrapped up their final presentations, handed in their Loureiro hard hats, and headed back to campus. Before we close the book on this year’s program, we are taking a moment to reflect on what they accomplished and the role our teams played in making it a success.

This summer, 14 students from universities across the country joined Loureiro’s offices and project sites in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and North Carolina. They represented a wide range of disciplines, including environmental and civil engineering, construction management, business development, and human resources. Each of them brought fresh ideas and a lot of enthusiasm to the work.

A Summer of Hands-On Learning

From their first week on the job, our interns were immersed in real Loureiro projects:

Conducting groundwater sampling and stormwater compliance inspections
Supporting proposal development and HR data audits
Assisting in hazardous materials management planning
Observing culvert replacement oversight and other active field operations

Highlights Beyond the Job

The program also gave interns opportunities to connect across the company and build skills for the future:

A welcome lunch with CEO Brian Cutler and ongoing mentorship from project managers, senior engineers, and corporate staff
A LinkedIn and résumé workshop to help them present their growing skillsets to future employers
A final presentation day on July 31, where interns shared their project work with Loureiro staff and, in many cases, with proud parents and family members attending in person or via Teams

Several interns were familiar faces who returned for a second or even third summer. Others joined us for the first time and quickly made their mark with curiosity, initiative, and fresh perspectives.

As we close out the season, we celebrate the contributions of:

Their work this summer made a difference for our teams, for our clients, and for the communities we serve. Thank you to every Loureiro team member who took time to mentor, answer questions, share insights, or give our interns a look behind the curtain of what we do.

The Outstanding Performance Awards

At Loureiro, we know we’re only as strong as our people. The drive, ingenuity, and commitment of our team members fuel our success and set us apart in the industry.

That’s why we created the Outstanding Performance Awards (OPA)—to recognize and reward employees who go above and beyond, exemplify our core values, and make a lasting impact on our clients and colleagues.

Now in its second year, the OPA program was developed as part of our overall profit-sharing strategy. As an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, we believe in sharing our success, and this initiative ensures that top performers across Loureiro—whether in Engineering, Corporate, Building Construction (LBC), or Contractors Inc. (LCI)—are acknowledged for their outstanding contributions.

But what makes this award truly special? It’s peer-driven.

Every year in late November, our employees have the opportunity to nominate their colleagues for an OPA, highlighting those who demonstrate exceptional leadership, problem-solving, client relationship-building, and teamwork. After nominations are submitted, a panel of leaders carefully reviews the entries before presenting finalists to the Board of Directors for approval.

This year, we received several nominations from across the company, resulting in 30 recipients being honored for their exceptional contributions. Each recipient’s nomination included words from their colleagues, detailing how they made a difference—whether by leading with passion, solving complex challenges, or stepping up to support a team in need.

Here’s just one example of what was said about an awardee:

"[Employee Name] started with LCI in March of 2024 and immediately began to make an impact. He embraced his position with a thirst for knowledge and a drive to get the job done. His efforts were instrumental in getting our two largest 2024 projects kicked off properly, and he has been a driving force for continued success on these projects through this past construction season. His curiosity to learn and his commitment to supporting the crews in the field align with our company’s core values of Teamwork and Client Focus.”

OPA isn’t just about recognizing those who bring in new business but also about celebrating the people who keep Loureiro running. From accounting and administration to project management and field operations, this award spans every corner of our organization.

As we continue to refine and enhance this program, we remain committed to recognizing those who make Loureiro a great place to work and an indispensable partner for our clients.
