Asbestos Project Monitor/Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist - Plainville, CT Office

Loureiro Engineering Associates has an immediate need for an Asbestos Project Monitor/Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist to add to our team in our Plainville, CT office.

Our goal is to employ the right individuals to be a part of our team, learning and working with experienced professionals who will help provide the formal training and mentoring needed to grow professionally and strive toward the opportunities that Loureiro can offer. Responsibilities:

  • Perform hazardous building material inspections for asbestos, lead-paint and PCB building surveys;
  • Perform indoor air quality inspections, water intrusion investigation and mold assessments;
  • Project oversight and coordination with contractors;
  • Operate and maintain instruments including sampling pumps, calibrators and microscopes.
  • Collect samples as required by various regulatory agencies, complete data sheets, chain of custody forms, and prepare samples for shipment to laboratory;
  • Maintain daily logs of activities related to project work;
  • Conduct workplace surveys to ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations;
  • Calibrate, operate, maintain and clean field equipment for air sampling and personnel exposure monitoring, obtain media, collect and submit samples for laboratory analysis, gather relevant project data, conduct field observations and document events;
  • Review technical data and draft technical reports that include quantitative and qualitative data and propose recommendations;
  • Interact with contractors, owners, officials and other parties; following precise directions and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or closely related field;
  • 2-5 years of experience various aspects of abatement projects preferred;
  • Current CT Asbestos license in project monitoring and inspector license;
  • Current CT lead-paint inspector/risk assessor license;
  • Must be able to perform field work with exposure to a variety of climatic conditions and potential exposure to hazardous materials and wastes;
  • Demonstrated maturity in judgment, and initiative;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare reports
  • Previous OSHA training: OSHA 10, OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, and hazardous waste handling experience;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and to wear a respirator;
  • Ability to carry and climb ladders and being able to use hand and power tools;
  • Off-hours work may be required;
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Civil Project Engineer - Plainville, CT Office

Loureiro Engineering Associates has an immediate opening for a Civil Project Engineer to join our team in our Plainville, Connecticut Office. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of civil and environmental consulting tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of Site Plan applications, permit applications, and design for roadways, sanitary sewers, landfill closures, transfer stations, utilities, and hydraulics;
  • Assists in preparation of proposal estimates of time and expense required to complete the project;
  • Assists in analytical data management, assessment and reporting on site investigation and remediation projects;
  • Participates in major project design decisions in conjunction with the Project Manager;
  • Provides the technical expertise for projects to which assigned;
  • May be delegated responsibility to maintain client contact throughout the development of the project;
  • May serve as Project Manager on certain projects.

Environmental Project Engineer – CT, MA, RI

Loureiro Engineering Associates is seeking an Environmental Project Engineer to add to our team. This position can work from our Plainville, CT, Rockland, MA or Exeter, RI offices.  Our goal is to employ the right individuals to be a part of our team, learning and working with experienced professionals who will help provide the formal training and mentoring needed to grow professionally and strive toward the opportunities that Loureiro can offer. Responsibilities:

  • The position will require a mixture of field activities and office activities.
  • Field activities would include environmental and construction oversight of a five to six year cleanup of a CERCLA Site consisting of excavation, underground utilities, liner installation, site work, in water work, dewatering, cofferdam/sheeting, temporary structures (i.e. Baily Bridge), soil and water treatment facilities building and operation, and wetlands restoration.
  • Office tasks will include organization of project data (data entry into existing database), data analysis, compilation of field data for project archives and reporting, authoring portions of, or complete, reports including environmental sampling remedial design, remedial action work plans, completion of investigation and construction reports. Assistance with all activities involved in preparing a report and design plans that goes to the client, and management and maintenance of project files;
  • Writing and supporting the writing of documents, including field oversight documentation reports, field reports, health and safety plans, quality assurance project plans, field sampling plans, data management plans, remedial investigation reports and feasibility studies.
  • Other field-related tasks could include: Preparation for field tasks and execution of field work including air, soil, sediment, and groundwater sampling; installing, developing and sampling monitoring wells; logging soil borings and collection of soil samples; drum and waste sampling; and completion of chain-of-custody forms;
  • Conduct environmental field studies and surveys; Working as part of a field team to conduct investigation and/or oversight projects;
  • Provide technical support as part of a project team performing preliminary assessments, site investigations, remedial investigations/actions, site surveys, feasibility studies as part of providing solutions to clients under CERCLA, RCRA and other environmental compliance regulations;

Requirements:

  • S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering;
  • 3-5 years’ experience in environmental consulting or construction oversight;
  • Must be able to oversee and work with subcontractors (e.g., drillers, construction workers, surveyors, etc.) while performing field work.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and technical writing skills;
  • Interest and/or experience with environmental site investigation/remediation, and/or air permitting;
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments (up to three plus months) as needed;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding environment. Knowledge in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • CERCLA experience would be a plus.

Senior Scientist, Geologist or Engineer – CT, MA, or RI Offices

The successful candidate will build and lead a team of professionals to manage all aspects of site civil engineering for public and private sector land development projects, including grading and drainage design, utility design, site and roadway layout.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop new business, including marketing to potential and existing clients and be integral in process of securing and managing clients and contracts to expand the North Carolina and Mid-Atlantic U.S. client base;
  • Acting as Project Manager on large, complex projects in fiscal management, client liaison, reporting requirements, and coordination with project team members;
  • Record, evaluate, and interpret data, prepare reports and work plans, and provide analysis and interpretations of findings to overseeing project delivery with a focus on scope/schedule/budget;
  • Review and stamp/certify technical reports submitted to agencies and clients;
  • Prepare environmental permits for air, water, and waste issues, including the implementation of remedial designs;

Requirements:

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering (MS is preferred);
  • 12+ years of experience required environmental engineering consulting company
  • North Carolina Professional Engineer License is required;
  • Progressive experience in the evaluation, design, permitting and construction administration of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, water storage and distribution facilities, and wastewater collection systems;
  • Demonstrated project management experience including budget and schedule monitoring and control responsibilities;

Projects will involve the phased investigation of contaminated sites and the development of remedial action and approaches that address soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, and sediment contaminants.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, coordinate and direct, multi-disciplined projects in site investigation and remediation treatment in conjunction with senior management, arrange for proposal submission
  • Thorough understanding of and be familiar with federal, state and local project requirements
  • Selected candidate should be self-directed, interested in mentoring staff, capable of developing and cultivating client relationships, and exhibits enthusiasm in moving ahead in their career
  • Ability to lead and supervise design teams as well as coordinate various sub-consultants
  • Marketing and business development including, preparation of proposals, participating in interviews and presentations, and direct interaction with existing and potential clients

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years as a Project Manager
  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Civil / Environmental / Chemical Engineering Geology/Hydrogeology (MS preferred)
  • PE License in CT, RI, MA
  • Prior consulting experience
  • Familiarity with project management and accounting software is a must
  • Professional accreditation (Licensed Environmental Professional, Licensed Site Professional) are a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and desire to manage and mentor junior engineers

Intern and Co-op

Our Co-Op/Internship program offers excellent opportunities during the academic school year and the summer for students to gain hands-on experience in a real work environment.
