Overview

When a global aerospace manufacturing corporation acquired a competing aerospace manufacturing company, they called on Loureiro to be their trusted partner during the integration. Loureiro assisted with documenting the compliance status of the various EH&S programs to the integration team and implemented new programs.

Approach

The time period following an acquisition or merger at a manufacturing facility brings rapid change. There can be new investment in processes that require permitting, new roles and reporting structures for personnel that necessitate training, decommissioning of equipment, and new programs and procedures. This rapid change brings risk of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) program non-compliance, due to the extra demands of staff and rapid change.

Loureiro assembled a dedicated team of EH&S professionals to become familiar with the facility, processes, and existing EH&S programs. The first step was to conduct a comprehensive internal audit of all EH&S programs and the related management systems, to develop an action plan where opportunities for improvement were identified. The Loureiro team acted as the facilitator between the Integration team of the new corporate parent company and facility staff, to ensure consistent communication regarding the progress on action items.

Loureiro assisted with a wide-range of EH&S integration activities including: Management of Change (MoC) implementation, air emissions assessments and reporting, air control device evaluations, hazardous waste characterization and minimization/optimization, contingency planning, local exhaust ventilation assessments, personal protective equipment assessments, confined space evaluations, machine guarding assessments, arc flash/electrical safety evaluations, and lock-out/tag-out assessments. With each of the programs that were improved, training was provided by Loureiro to various levels of facility staff, from the shop floor to upper management, to ensure effective implementation of the changes.

Results

As a result of the Loureiro’s partnership with the facility staff and corporate integration team, the facility’s EH&S department has an efficient and high-performing program based on subsequent internal audits. The partnership is maintained today and Loureiro continues to assist with regulatory reporting obligations, and implementation, design, and permitting of process changes.
